The Gender Gap in College Participation Rates

According to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau, in October 2018, there were 13,421,000 women between the ages of 18 and 24 in the United States. Of these, 50.2 percent were enrolled in postsecondary education.
For men in this age group, 44.7 percent were enrolled in postsecondary education.
For women in this age group who were not enrolled in higher education, 4,901,000, or 73 percent, were employed. For men in this age group who were not enrolled in high education, 77 percent were employed.
There were 1,610,000 women who graduated from high school in 2018. Of these, more than 72 percent were enrolled in college or vocational school by October 2018.
For men in this age group who graduated from high school in the spring of 2018, 67.3 percent were enrolled in college or vocational school by October 2018.
