A Trio of Women Scholars Appointed to University Dean Positions

Julie Hoff will serve as dean of the Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing of the University of Oklahoma’s Health Science Center in Oklahoma City. She has been serving as professor and dean of nursing at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Earlier, Dr. Hoff was chair of the Eleanor Mann School of Nursing at the University of Arkansas. Dr. Hoff will begin her new duties in January.

Dr. Hoff earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Rush University in Chicago. She holds a master of public health degree, a master’s degree in nursing and a Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Beverly Keel is the new dean of the College of Media and Entertainment at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro. She will be the first woman to serve dean in the college’s history. Dr. Keel is a professor in the department of recording industry at the university and will begin her duties as dean in January.

Professor Keep is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University. She earned a master’s degree at Columbia University in New York City.

Amy Sueyoshi was appointed dean of the College of Ethnic Studies at San Francisco State University. She is the first woman appointed to the position in the college’s 50-year history. Dr. Sueyoshi has served as interim dean since January 2018. Dr. Sueyoshi has been a faculty member in the Race and Resistance Studies and Sexuality Studies departments at San Francisco State since 2002. She is the author of Discriminating Sex: White Leisure and the Making of American “Oriental” (University of Illinois Press, 2018).

Dr. Sueyoshi is a graduate of Barnard College in New York City. She earned a Ph.D. in history at the University of California, Los Angele.
