New Grant Programs Relating to Women in Higher Education

Here is this week’s news of grants that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.

Texas Woman’s University and North Central Texas College are partners in a three-year, $300,000 federal grant from the Office of Violence Against Women of the U.S. Department of Justice. The grant will support Project REV (Resources for Ending Violence) on five campuses of North Central Texas College. The program provides counseling, referral services and sheltering for women who have been victims of violence .

Scripps College, the highly selective women’s college in Claremont, California, received a $2 million gift from the estate of Frank R. Miller Jr., a former trustee. The donation was made in honor of his late wife, Kathleen Howard Miller, a 1955 graduate of Scripps College. Kathleen Howard Miller served on the Scripps board of trustees from 1973 until her death in 2004. The college will name a section of a new building that will house faculty offices in honor of Kathleen Howard Miller.
