University of Arkansas at Monticello Picks Peggy Doss as Its Next Chancellor

Peggy Doss has been selected at the next chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Monticello. She will take office on January 1, following the retirement of Chancellor Karla Hughes.

The university enrolls just over 2,800 undergraduate students and about 300 graduate students, according to the latest data furnished to the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 53 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Dr. Doss has been serving as provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. Earlier, she was dean of the university’s College of Education for 10 years.

“I’m humbled to have been given the opportunity to continue to serve my alma mater in a new way,” Dr. Doss said after her appointment was announced. “I’m looking forward to working with faculty, staff and community leaders to ensure a strong future for UAM and the region. I feel that my experience across the educational system in southeast Arkansas has given me a unique perspective on the important role our university plays in the quality of life and economic advancement of our region, and I am excited to get to work to help shape the future of the institution and our community in this role.”

Dr. Doss is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Monticello, where she majored in education. She earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and a second master’s degree in gifted and talented education and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock
