Nine Woman Who Are Taking on New Administrative Duties at Colleges and Universities

Gabrielle Gaustad was appointed vice president of statutory affairs at Alfred University in New York. In this role, she will serve as unit head for the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. Since January 2019, Dr. Gaustad has been serving as dean of the School of Engineering at Alfred University.

Dr. Gaustad earned a bachelor’s degree in ceramic engineering from Alfred University in 2004. She also holds a master’s degree in computation for design and optimization and a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering, both from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Jocelyn Imani was appointed assistant dean for graduate student recruitment at Fisk University in Nashville. Dr. Imani previously served as a research and curatorial assistant with the National Museum of African-American History and Culture.

Dr. Imani is a third-generation graduate of Fisk University. She holds a Ph.D. in history from Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Jennifer Collins was appointed budget director at Syracuse University Libraries. Collins was a budget analyst at the university’s Office of Budget and Planning. Before joining the university in 2016, she was chief financial officer, vice president, and treasurer at Coyne International Enterprises.

Collins is a graduate of Columbia College where she double majored in accounting and computer information systems. She earned an MBA at LeMoyne College in Syracuse, New York.

Phyllis Metcalf-Turner is the new chief of staff to the president of Alcorn State University in Mississippi. She is the former dean of the Kalmanovitz School of Education at Saint Mary’s College of California.

Dr. Metcalf-Turner holds a bachelor’s degree in special education and a master’s degree in speech/language pathology from Eastern Michigan University. She earned a second master’s degree and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Minnesota.

Patricia Lynn was appointed director of outdoor adventures in the campus recreation department at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia. She will lead the college’s efforts in outdoor leadership, education and recreation.

Lynn is a graduate of Ohio State University. She earned a master’s degree at Georgia State University in Atlanta.

Krystal Prime Banfield was appointed vice president for education outreach and social entrepreneurship at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. She was associate vice president and has been on the staff at the college since 2006.

Dr. Banfield is a native of Detroit. She holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Howard University in Washinton, D.C., a master’s degree in music from Indiana University and an educational doctorate from St. Thomas University in Minneapolis.

Gail Glover was selected as the next vice president for communications at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Glover comes to Bucknell from the State University of New York at Geneseo, where she serves as chief communications and marketing officer. She will begin her new duties at Bucknell in January.

Originally from South Africa, Glover holds a master’s degree in social sciences and a bachelor’s degree in applied social sciences, both from Binghamton University of the State University of New York System

Lynell Cadray has been appointed Emory University’s inaugural university ombudsperson and senior adviser to the president. For the past five years, Cadray has been serving in the Office of Equity and Inclusion as both vice provost and associate vice provost.

Cadray is a graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans. She earned a master’s degree at Georgia State Univerity.

Lori Birrell, former head of Special Collections, has been promoted to associate dean for Special Collections for the University of Arkansas Libraries. Before coming to the University of Arkansas in 2017, Dr. Birrell served for six years as a Special Collections librarian for historical manuscripts at the University of Rochester in New York.

Dr. Birrell is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, where she majored in feminist studies. She holds a master’s degree in history from the University of Massachusetts and a master of library and information science degree from Simmons University in Boston. Dr. Birrell earned an educational doctorate at the University of Rochester.
