Five Women Join the Faculty at Colorado College

Colorado College, the highly rated liberal arts educational institution in Colorado Springs, has announced that it has added 14 new tenure-track faculty members. Five of these new faculty members are women.

Rachel Montgomery Paupeck is joining the art faculty. She is the founder of Montgomery Studies, a Brooklyn-based design firm that specializes in experimental architectural interiors. Paupeck is a graduate of Smith College in Northhampton, Massachusetts, where she majored in architecture and urbanism. She earned a master of architecture degree from the Rhode Island School of Design. Since 2015, she has taught the Pratt Institute in New York City.

Florencia Rojo is a new assistant professor of sociology. She was an assistant adjunct professor in urban sociology and social and historical studies at Mills College in Oakland, California. Dr. Rojo is a summa cum laude graduate of DePaul University in Chicago, where she majored in sociology. She earned a Ph.D. at the University of California, San Francisco.

Danielle Porter Sanchez is joining the history department at the college. Since 2015, she has been an assistant professor in the department of history and the Africana studies department at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. She is the author of the forthcoming book Free(ing) France in Colonial Brazzaville: Race, Urban Space, and the Making of Afrique Française Libre (Routledge, 2020). Dr. Sanchez holds a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Texas at Austin. She also earned a master’s degree in Africana studies from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.

Monica Sanchez is joining the theatre faculty at Colorado College. She is a professional actor, director, producer, and playwright. She previously taught dramatic writing at the University of  Mexico. Sanchez is a graduate of the University of Mexico and earned a master of fine arts degree in dramatic writing from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

Sarah Schanz is a new tenure-track faculty member in geology. She recently completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in the department of earth and atmospheric sciences at Indiana University in Bloomington. Dr. Schanz is a magna cum laude graduate of Western Washington University. She earned a Ph.D. in earth and space sciences from the University of Washington.
