One Woman Among the Finalists for Provost at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee

The University of Wisconsin Milwaukee has announced four finalists for the position of provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. One of the four finalists is a woman.
Since 2005, Deirdre M. Mageean has been vice chancellor for research and graduate studies at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. Previously, she was associate vice president for research and dean of the Graduate School at the University of Maine. She began teaching at the University of Maine in 1987.
Dr. Mageean is a graduate of Queens University of Belfast in Northern Ireland. She holds a master’s degree in sociology from the University of York and a Ph.D. in geography from The Open University. Her doctoral thesis was entitled, “A Comparative Study of Pre- and Post-Famine Migrants From North-West Ireland to North America.”
