Dorothy Leland Chosen to Lead the Merced Campus of the University of California

Dorothy Leland, president of Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville, was named chancellor of the Merced campus of the University of California. Pending approval by the University of California Board of Regents, Dr. Leland will begin her new duties in California on July 1.

Dr. Leland holds bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from Purdue University. In addition to teaching at Purdue, she has held faculty positions at California State University-Northridge, California State University-Chico and the University of California at Santa Cruz. She also served as associate provost and chief administrative officer at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. Dr. Leland is the current president of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges.
