Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Appoints Its Next Leader

Janet L. Steinmayer has been named president of Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The university enrolls just over 2,000 undergraduate students and more than 2,600 graduate students, according to the latest figures furnished to the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 77 percent of the undergraduate student body. Steinmayer will begin her presidency on July 1, 2019.

Currently, Steinmayer serves as president of Mitchell College in New London, Connecticut. Under her leadership, the college has built a strong financial foundation, developed a strategic master plan, increased accessibility to a broad range of students, and fostered partnerships with community organizations. Earlier in her career, Steinmayer served as CEO of Centerplate, Inc. and as senior vice president of external affairs and general counsel for Trans World Airlines.

“It is both a personal honor and a tremendous professional opportunity being selected to serve as Lesley University’s seventh president,” said Steinmayer. “Knowing Lesley’s history of educating and supporting creative and skilled leaders in education, human services and the arts, and embracing the changes and challenges in higher education, I clearly see Lesley’s path to being a driving force of change.”

Steinmayer is a magna cum laude graduate of Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania where she double majored in English and history. She holds a juris doctorate from the University of Chicago.
