Four Women Scholars Taking on New Roles at Colleges and Universities

Karen B. Gaskill has been named chair of the department of accounting in the Ketner School of Business at Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina. She has served as an assistant professor of accounting at the college since 2017.

Professor Gaskill is a magna cum laude graduate of Catawba College where she majored in accounting. She holds a master’s degree in accounting with a concentration in information systems from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is currently completing a doctor of business administration degree at Jacksonville University.

Claire Gmachl has been named head of Whitman College, one of Princeton University’s six residential colleges. She currently serves as the Eugene Higgins Professor of Electrical Engineering and has been a Princeton faculty member since 2003.

Dr. Gmachl holds a master’s degree in physics from the University of Innsbruck in Austria and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the Technical University of Vienna.

Kelli V. Randall has been named vice president of academic affairs at Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina. She will continue to serve in her current roles as a tenured professor of English, dean of liberal arts and humanities, and accreditation liaison.

Dr. Randall holds a Ph.D. in English from Emory University in Atlanta.

Tammie Walker has been named director of the School of Music at the University of Iowa. She currently serves as director of the School of Music at Western Illinois University.

Dr. Walker is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where she majored in piano performance. She holds a doctor of musical arts degree in piano performance and literature with a minor in musicology from the University of Illinois.
