Ellen Neufeldt Appointed President of California State University, San Marcos

Ellen Neufeldt has been named president of California State University, San Marcos. The university enrolls nearly 16,000 students. Women make up 63 percent of the undergraduate student body. Dr. Neufeldt will assume her new duties this July.

Currently, Dr. Neufeldt serves as the founding vice president for student engagement and enrollment services at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. During the past eight years at the university, she served as co-leader of the strategic planning process, expanded educational access through the Online Virginia Network, and established model programs such as the Social Mobility Symposium and success coaching. Earlier in her career, she served as vice president for student affairs at Salisbury University in Maryland and as assistant vice president of student development at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga.

Dr. Neufeldt has won numerous awards and served in leadership roles at the national level in higher education organizations, including the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals in Higher Education (NASPA), the Southern Association for College Student Affairs and the National Association for College Admission Counseling.

Dr. Neufeldt holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and a master’s degree in counselor education/college student personnel both from Tennessee Technological University. She earned a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Tennessee.
