Tara Murray has been named president-elect of the Special Libraries Association (SLA), a nonprofit global organization for information professionals serving in business, government, academic, and other specialized settings. Murray will serve as president-elect in 2019, president in 2020, and past president in 2021.
Currently, Murray serves as librarian for Germanic and Slavic languages and literatures at Pennsylvania State University Libraries. Before joining the Penn State faculty in 2018, she was the director of information services and librarian at the American Philatelic Research Library, based in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. Also, she previously served as the information core director for Penn State’s Population Research Institute.
Murray has been very involved within the Special Libraries Association over the years. She has served as president of the SLA Central Pennsylvania Chapter and chair of the SLA Social Science Division. She was a member of the SLA Board of Directors from 2013 to 2015 and was named a Fellow in 2017 in recognition of her service to the association and the information profession.
Murray holds a bachelor’s degree in German studies from Bard College in New York and a master of library and information sciences degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
