Eight Women Faculty Members Taking on New Assignments

Sarah Deyong was named director of the architecture program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She has been serving as an associate professor of architecture at Texas A&M University. Dr. Deyong joined the faculty at Texas A&M University in 2007.

Dr. Deyong holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Toronto and a Ph.D. in history and theory of architecture from Princeton University in New Jersey.

Kalenda Eaton, an associate professor of English, who holds the Frank and Evelyn Steinbrucker endowed chair of the humanities at Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania, was given the added duties of director of the master’s degree program in English at the university.

Dr. Eaton is a graduate of Dillard University in New Orleans. She earned a Ph.D. in English and African American literature from Ohio State University.

Annegret Falkner will join the faculty at Princeton University this fall as an assistant professor in the Princeton Neuroscience Institute. She has been conducting postdoctoral research in the neural origins or aggression and premeditated violence at New York University.

Dr. Falkner is a graduate of Oberlin College in Ohio. She earned a Ph.D. at Columbia University in New York City.

Ann Graf will be an assistant professor of information organization in the School of Library and Information Science at Simmons College in Boston. She has been completing doctoral work in information organization at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Graf holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and a master of library and information science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Wendy Matthews was promoted to associate professor of music education at Wayne State University in Detroit. She was also granted tenure. Before joining the faculty at Wayne State University, Dr. Matthews was chair of the music department at Northern Virginia Community College in Springfield.

Dr. Matthews is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore. She earned a master’s degree in music from the University of Maryland, College Park and a Ph.D. in educational psychology at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.

Debra Anderson, who had been serving as an associate professor of nursing and director of work-life management at the University of Kentucky, is the new associate dean for research at South Dakota State University College of Nursing.

Dr. Mason is a graduate of Indiana Central University. She earned a master’s degree from Indiana University and a doctorate at Oregon Health Sciences University.

Kim Walker was appointed director of the School of Music at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. Since 2004, she has been dean at the Conservatorium of Music at the University of Sydney in Australia. Earlier in her career, Walker was a professor of music and associate dean of research for the arts and humanities at Indiana University.

Walker studied at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and the Geneva Conservatory and the Basel Schola Contorum in Switzerland. She is a bassoonist with more than 30 solo and chamber music recordings.

Marcia G. Ory, Regents and Distinguished Professor in the School of Public Health at the Texas A&M University Health Science Center in Bryan, Texas, has been given the added duties as associate vice president of strategic partnerships and initiatives.

Dr. Ory is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. She earned a master’s degree in sociology at Indiana University, a master of public health degree at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, and a Ph.D. in family studies at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Dr. Pfluger has spent the past year as Bakersfield College's interim president. She previously served as vice chancellor of educational services and student success at the Kern Community College District.

Caroline Attardo Genco Named the First Woman President of the University at Buffalo

Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
