As a result of the new alignment that will eliminate the department of critical cultures, gender, and race studies, many of the women’s studies faculty in that department will join either the department of English or the department of history. The plan is to create a new interdisciplinary degree and certificate program with the tentative title of Women’s Gender, and Sexuality studies that will be housed in the department of English.
Todd Butler, chair of the department of English stated that “this faculty-led transition reflects the rich range of connections and longstanding relationships we already share. At the same time, with our large digital footprint, together we are well equipped to engage questions in women’s, gender and sexuality studies, not only historically but also across the many forms of contemporary culture.”
