Roberta Romano, Sterling Professor of Law and director of the Center for the Study of Corporate Law at Yale Law School, received the 2017-18 Marshall-Wythe Medallion from the faculty at the William and Mary Law School in Williamsburg, Virginia. The award is given to an individual who has demonstrated exceptional accomplishment in law.
Among the previous women recipients are Judge Shirley Hufstedler and Supreme Court justices Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The award is named for John Marshall, the fourth Chief Justice of the United States and George Wythe, a mentor to Thomas Jefferson and the first professor of law in the United States.
Professor Romano joined the faculty at Yale Law School in 1985. She holds a joint appointment in the Yale School of Management. Earlier in her career, she taught at Stanford Law School.
Professor Romano is a graduate of the University of Rochester in New York, where she majored in history and English. She holds a master’s degree in history from the University of Chicago and a juris doctorate from Yale Law School.
