Elizabeth Benton, an associate professor of pediatrics and the founding director of the Alabama Child Health Improvement Alliance at the University of Alabama Birmingham, received the 2018 Paul V. Miles Fellowship Award from the American Board of Pediatrics.
Dr. Benton joined the faculty at the university in 1998. She earned her medical degree at the University of Alabama and completed her residency at the University of Washington in Seattle.
Mary Beckerle, who holds the Jon M. Huntsman Presidential Endowed Chair and is director of the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah, was presented with the Alfred G. Knudson Award in Cancer Genetics from the National Cancer Institute.
Dr. Beckerle holds a Ph.D. in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She conducted postdoctoral research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Monica A. Perez, an associate professor in the department of neurological surgery at the University of Miami School of Medicine, received the 2017 Outstanding Neurorehabilitation Clinician Scientist Award from the American Society of Neurorehabilitation Education Foundation Board.
Dr. Perez is a graduate of Catholic University of Chile in Santiago. She earned a Ph.D. at the University of Miami.
Pamela Scott-Bracey, an assistant professor in the department of instructional systems and workforce development at Mississippi State University, was named Collegiate Teacher of the Year by the Southern Business Education Association. Dr. Scott-Bracey joined the faculty at Mississippi State in 2013.
Dr. Scott-Bracey is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, where she majored in business technology education. She holds a master’s degree in higher education administration from Mississippi College and a Ph.D. in applied technology and performance improvement from the University of North Texas.
Melissa Weddell, an associate professor in the department of recreation management and physical education at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, received the Excellence in Research Award from the Resort and Commercial Recreation Association. She was honored for her study, “Nomadtopia: Emerging Tourism Markets.”
Dr. Weddell is a graduate of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. She holds a master’s degree in organizational management from Southern Illinois University and a Ph.D. in recreation resource management from Clemson University in South Carolina.
