Jo Marshall, president of Somerset Community College in Kentucky, announced that she will step down on June 30. She has been president of the college since 2000. Earlier, she was vice president and dean at Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Phenix City, Alabama.
Dr. Marshall earned a doctoral degree in English and higher education administration from the University of Alabama.
Nancy Wells, director of nursing research at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center has retired after a quarter century in her post. She will stay on as a research professor at the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing.
Dr. Wells is a graduate of the University of Windsor in Ontario, Canada. She earned a master’s degree at the University of Washington and a doctorate at Boston University.
Maria Marron, dean of the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, resigned from her post on January 19. No reason was given for her resignation. The university later announced that Dr. Marron would return to the faculty at the journalism school for the 2018-19 academic year.
Before becoming dean in 2014, Dr. Marron was a professor and chair of the department of journalism at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant. Professor Marron is a graduate of University College Dublin. She holds a master’s degree in journalism from Ohio State University and a Ph.D. in journalism and mass communications from Ohio University.
Lisa Freiman stepped down from her post as director of the Institute for Contemporary Art at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. In 2013, Dr. Freiman was named the inaugural director of the institute, which is scheduled to open this spring. Earlier, she was an assistant professor of art history at the University of Georgia.
Dr. Freiman is a graduate of Oberlin College in Ohio, where she majored in art history. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in modern art history from Emory University in Atlanta.
