New Duties for Five Women Faculty Members at Colleges and Universities

Mehrsa Baradaran, the J. Alton Hosch Associate Professor of Law at the University of Georgia, is taking on additional duties as associate dean for strategic initiatives. She joined the faculty at the University of Georgia in 2012. She is the author of The Color of Money: Black Banks and the Racial Wealth Gap (Harvard University Press, 2017).

Professor Baradaran is a graduate of Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. She holds a juris doctorate from New York University.

Laura Ephraim was promoted to associate professor of political science and granted tenure at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. She is the author of Who Speaks for Nature? On the Politics of Science (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2017).

Dr. Ephraim is a graduate of Pomona College in Claremont, California, where she majored in politics and women’s studies. She holds a Ph.D. in political science from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

Nancy Lynch, the NEC Professor of Software Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was named the inaugural associate department head for strategic directions for the department of electrical engineering and computer science. Dr. Lynch has taught at MIT since 1982.

Professor Lynch is a graduate of Brooklyn College of the City University of New York. She earned a Ph.D. in mathematics from MIT.

Elinor Sullivan is a new associate professor of human physiology at the University of Oregon. She holds a joint appointment in the Divisions of Neuroscience and Cardiometabolic Health at the Oregon National Primate Research Center. Before joining the faculty at the University of Oregon, Dr. Sullivan was an assistant professor of biology at the University of Portland.

Dr. Sullivan earned a Ph.D. in physiology from the Oregon Health and Science University and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of California San Francisco.

Marianne Janack, the John Stewart Kennedy Professor of Philosophy at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, was appointed to the 2017-18 Romanell-Phi Beta Kappa Professorship. The professorship was established by Phi Beta Kappa in 1983. Professor Janack will receive a stipend and give three lectures at educational institutions with Phi Beta Kappa chapters over the course of the year. Professor Janack is the author of What We Mean By Experience (Stanford University Press, 2012).

Dr. Janack joined the faculty at Hamilton College in 2001. She holds a Ph.D. from Syracuse University in New York.
