Kristi A. Nelson Is the New Provost at the University of Cincinnati

Kristi NelsonKristi A. Nelson is the new provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of Cincinnati. She has served as interim provost since October. Her appointment is for three years.

The University of Cincinnati enrolls nearly 26,000 undergraduate students and nearly 11,000 graduate students. Women make up 50 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Dr. Nelson had retired from the university in 2015 before being called to serve as interim provost. She served on faculty of the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning for 36 years. She was senior vice provost for 15 years. Dr. Nelson also served as interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences from November 2013 to December 2014.

In accepting the position, Dr. Nelson said, “It s a tremendous honor and privilege to be named provost and serve the University of Cincinnati. I take great pride in its success and I look forward to working closely with President Pinto to advance the strategic direction of the University of Cincinnati and further its mission as a premier, public, urban research university dedicated to experience-based learning and research.”

Dr. Nelson is a graduate of Florida State University. She holds a Ph.D. in art history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
