Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education

Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.

Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, received a three-year, $300,000 grant from the Office of Violence Against Women of the U.S. Department of Justice to enhance the college’s efforts to prevent sexual violence on campus. The grant will allow the university to hire an employee to coordinate the college’s sexual assault prevention and response teams. A nurse will also be hired who has been trained in sexual assault cases.

Mills College, the liberal arts educational institution for women in Oakland, California, received a $150,000 grant from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation to commission new musical compositions from world-class artists in chamber music, electronic, jazz, opera, and hip-hop music.

Cornell University has received a gift to establish the Ruth Bierman Linnick ’60 Memorial Travel Fund. The fund will provides grants of up to $5,000 for undergraduate women students in the College of Arts and Sciences to use to finance study abroad opportunities.
