Shelly Haley, professor of classics and professor of Africana studies at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, received the 2017 Award for Excellence in Teaching at the College Level from the Society for Classical Studies. Professor Haley will be honored at the society’s annual meeting in Boston in January.
Professor Haley is a graduate of Syracuse University in New York. She earned a Ph.D. at the University of Michigan.
Kathryn Edwards, the Sarah H. Sell and Cornelius Vanderbilt Professor and professor of pediatrics at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, was named as the recipient of the 2018 Maxwell Finland Award for Scientific Achievement from the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases. The award will be presented in May 2018 in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Edwards is a graduate of Grinnell College in Iowa and earned her medical degree at the University of Iowa.
Marjorie Zatz, dean of the Graduate School at the University of California, Merced, received the Julius Debro Award from the Division on People of Color and Crime of the American Society of Criminology.
Dr. Zatz is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from Indiana University.
Dr. Dotson spent six years as president of Yuba College in California. Earlier, she served eight years as a senior administrator with Clover Park Technical College in Washington.
Dr. Shah is the Ursula Geller Distinguished Professor of Research in Cardiovascular Diseases and associate dean for translational research at the Duke University School of Medicine. She will serve as president-elect of the American Heart Association in 2026–2027, followed by a one-year term as president in 2027–2028.
Dr. Batten will become interim president of Horry-Georgetown Technical College on August 1. She most recently served as the two-year college's vice president for student affairs.
Dr. Kahanov became the twentieth president of Notre Dame de Namur University in California on July 1. She previously served as provost at Alvernia University in Pennsylvania, Stockton University in New Jersey, and SUNY Oneonta.
Most recently, Dr. Sanders served as vice president of experiential product management and interim vice president of product and technology at Western Governors University.
