New Assignments for Seven Women Faculty Members at Colleges and Universities

Sarah E. Gardner was named Distinguished Professor of History in the College of Liberal Arts at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. Her most recent book is Reviewing the South: The Literary Marketplace and the Southern Renaissance, 1920-1941 (Cambridge University Press, 2017).

Dr. Gardner joined the faculty at Mercer University in 1996. She holds a Ph.D. in history from Emory University in Atlanta.

Tracey E. George, who holds the Charles B. Cox II and Lucy D. Cox Family Chair in Law and Liberty at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, has been given the added duties of associate provost for faculty affairs.

Professor George is a graduate of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. She earned a master’s degree in political science at Washington University in St. Louis and a juris doctorate at Stanford Law School.

Vesla Weaver was named the Michael Bloomberg Associate Professor of Political Science and Sociology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Since 2012, she has been an associate professor of African American studies and political science at Yale University. Dr. Weaver is the co-author of Arresting Citizenship: The Democratic Consequences of American Crime Control (University of Chicago Press, 2014).

Dr. Weaver is a graduate of the University of Virginia. She holds a Ph.D. in government and social policy from Harvard University.

Dana Harrold, the women’s basketball coach at Grinnell College in Iowa, has been named an assistant professor of physical education at the college.

A native of Jesup, Iowa, Harrold earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Dubuque in Iowa. She holds a master’s degree in physical education with an emphasis in athletic administration from Loras College in Dubuque.

Caroline Boxmeyer, a professor in the department of psychiatry and behavioral medicine at the University of Alabama, has been given the added duties of assistant dean for the College of Community Health Sciences at the university.

Professor Boxmeyer is a magna cum laude graduate of Princeton University in New Jersey. She earned a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of California, San Diego.

Mavis Sanders, a professor of education at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, was appointed the inaugural director of the Center for Early Learning in Urban Communities at the university. She joined the faculty at the university in 2011. Dr. Sanders is the co-author of Principals Matter: A Guide to School, Family, and Community Partnerships (Corwin Press, 2009).

Professor Sanders is a graduate of Barnard College in New York City. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in social sciences, policy, and educational practice from Stanford University.

Lindsey A. Criswell, a professor of rheumatology in the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, has been given the added responsibilities of vice chancellor for research at the university.

Dr. Criswell earned her medical degree and completed her postdoctoral fellowship in rheumatology at the University of California, San Francisco.
