In Memoriam: Jacqueline Bolden Beck, 1931-2017

Jacqueline Beck, the founding dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences at Florida A&M University, died on October 31. She was 86 years old.

Dr. Beck started her career at Florida A&M University in 1958 as an instructor of nursing. She was promoted to associate professor and served as acting dean of the School of Nursing. In 1982, she was charged with forming the School of Allied Health Sciences and led the new school as dean until 2000. The school offers a wide range of degree programs including healthcare management, health information management, occupational therapy and physical therapy.

A native of Gulfport, Mississippi, Dr. Beck was a graduate of Dillard University in New Orleans. She held a master’s degree in nursing from Indiana University and an educational doctorate from the University of Florida.
