The board of regents of the University of New Mexico has announced a field of five finalists who will be considered to become the 22nd president of the educational institution. All five candidates will be visiting campus before the end of the month for interviews and an open forum with faculty, students, and staff members. Two of the five finalists are women.
Anny Morrobel-Sosa is president and founder of the Micaela Group. From 2012 to 2016, Dr. Morrobel-Sosa was provost and senior vice president for academic affairs for Lehman College of the City University of New York. Earlier, she was the dean of the College of Science at the University of Texas at El Paso. Dr. Morrobel is a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico, where she double majored in physics and chemistry. She earned a master’s degree in chemistry from Stony Brook University of the State University of New York System and a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
Garnett S. Stokes is provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Missouri in Columbia. From 2011 to 2015, she served as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Florida State University. During 2014, she was interim president of Florida State University. Dr. Stokes is a graduate of Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee, where she majored in psychology. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in industrial/organization psychology from the University of Georgia.
Dr. Fallon comes to her new role from St. John Fisher University in Rochester, New York, where she has served as dean of the School of Arts and Sciences since 2018. Previously, she was provost at Marylhurst University in Oregon.
Known for her expertise in designing and implementing randomized clinical trials, Dr. Mehran, an endowed professor and research director at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, focuses her work on personalized medicine and developing individual risk scores for bleeding and acute kidney injury.
Dr. Sabin is slated to become the next president of Minnesota North College on July 1. She currently serves as the college's academic dean for career and technical education and director of the Eveleth campus.
With over 25 years of experience in higher education, business, and public service, Dr. Kollmann has been serving as chancellor of the New Mexico State University Global Campus. She is slated to become the next president of Vermont State University in July.
Throughout her career, Leeds has gained more than 25 years of experience as a professor and university administrator. Currently, she serves as dean of the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University.
The selected candidate should have expertise and experience in theoretical models in labor and public economics as well as in microeconometrics and programming.
