Three Women Deans Are Leaving Their Posts

Katy Smith Abbott, vice president for student affairs and dean of the college at Middlebury College in Vermont, announced that she will step down from these administrative posts at the end of the calendar year. She will remain at Middlebury College as a professor of art history.

Smith Abbott joined the faculty at Middlebury College in 1996. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Indiana University in Bloomington.

Nancy Marcus, dean of the Graduate School at Florida State University for the past 12 years has retired. She served on the faculty for 30 years. During this long tenure, she served as chair of the department of oceanography, director of the Marine Laboratory, and director of the university’s Women in Math, Science, and Engineering program.

Dr. Marcus is a graduate of Goucher College in Baltimore. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in biology from Yale University.

Sally Blount, dean of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, announced that she will step down at the end of the 2017-18 academic year. She was appointed dean in 2010. Dr. Blount will take a sabbatical and return to Northwestern in the fall of 2019 as the Nemmers Professor of Management and Organizations.

Before becoming dean at Northwestern, Dr. Blount was dean of the undergraduate College of Business at New York University. Dr. Blount earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. at the Kellogg School of Management.

Jennie Sanders to Lead Academic Affairs at Purdue Global

Most recently, Dr. Sanders served as vice president of experiential product management and interim vice president of product and technology at Western Governors University.
