Wesleyan University Scholar Wins Book Award From the American Sociological Association

Victoria Pitts-Taylor, professor of feminist, gender, and sexuality studies at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, received the Robert K. Merton Award from the Science, Knowledge and Technology Section of the American Sociological Association. The award recognizes an outstanding book on science, knowledge and/or technology published during the preceding three years.

Professor Pitts-Taylor was honored at an ASA meeting in Montreal earlier this month for her book The Brain’s Body: Neuroscience and Corporeal Politics (Duke University Press, 2016). The book previously won the 2016 Prize in Feminist Philosophy from the Philosophy of Science Association.

Professor Pitts-Taylor is a graduate of Ohio University in Athens. She holds a Ph.D. from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. An earlier book authored by Professor Pitts-Taylor is Surgery Junkies: Wellness and Pathology in Cosmetic Culture (Rutgers University Press, 2007).
