Three Women Appointed to Dean Posts at Universities

Karen Armitage was appointed interim dean and director of health policy at the College of Public Health at the University of New Mexico. She is an associate clinical professor in the university’s department of family and community medicine. Earlier, Dr. Armitage was chief medical officer for the New Mexico Department of Health.

Dr. Armitage holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and a medical doctorate from the University of California, San Diego.

Heidi L.K. Manning was named dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania. She was a professor and chair of the department of physics at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota.

Professor Manning is a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. She earned a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Minnesota.

Stella N. Batalama was appointed dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. Dr. Batalama has been on the faculty at the University at Buffalo of the State University of New York System since 1995. Most recently, she served as chair of the department of electrical engineering at the university.

Dr. Batalama holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science and engineering from the University of Patras in Greece. She earned a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Virginia.
