A Trio of Women Academics Honored With Prestigious Awards

Sharon I. Bull director of library services at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho, received the Emily Russel Award from the Association of Christian Librarians. The award honors outstanding contributions to Christian librarianship.

Dr. Bull joined Northwest Nazarene University in 1995. She has been a member of the Association of Christian Librarians since 1977.

Em Claire Knowles, assistant dean for student and alumni affairs at Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts, received the Beta Phi Mu Award from the International Library and Information Studies Honor Society. The award is given “in recognition of the achievement of a library school faculty member or another individual for distinguished service to education for librarianship.”

Dr. Knowles joined the staff at Simmons College in 1988. She holds a doctorate in library science from Simmons College.

Nancy Gard McGehee, chair of the department of hospitality and tourism management at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, received the Outstanding Women in Travel Research Award from Women in Travel and Tourism International.

Professor MeGehee has taught at Virginia Tech since 2001. She is a graduate of Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. Dr. MeGehee earned a master’s degree at North Carolina State University and a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech.
