Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.
Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C., received a $100,000 grant from the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade to add bilingual patient navigation to allow women diagnosed with breast cancer to get the information they need in their preferred language.
Mills College, the liberal arts educational institution for women in Oakland, California, received a $3 million gift from the estate of alumna Nancy Cook, to enhance photography programs at the college. The gift will fund an endowed faculty chair in photography and a scholarship program for photography students.
Texas Woman’s University received a $2 million gift from Sue S. Bancroft, the former chair of the university’s board of regents and her husband Christopher. The funds will be used for programs aimed at cultivating leadership opportunities for women at the university. Sue Bancroft is a former professional musician, college professor, and public school administrator. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University and a master’s degree in music performance from the University of Michigan.
