Three Women Appointed to Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation Professorships

The University of Wisconsin-Madison has announced the appointment of 10 faculty members as Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation Professors. Three of the 10 faculty members named to these professorships are women.

Jane Collins is the Frances Perkins Professor of Community and Environmental Sociology. Her research is focused on the sociology of labor and how globalization is changing the work environment. Professor Collins is a graduate of the University of Virginia. She holds a master’s degree in Latin American studies and a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Florida. She has taught at the University of Wisconsin since 1992.

Paula Niedenthal is the Howard Leventhal Professor of Psychology. She also serves as director of the Niedenthal Emotions Laboratory at the university. Her research involves how the brain processes information relating to emotional facial expression, gesture, and language. She joined the faculty at the University of Wisconsin in 2011. Professor Niedenthal is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and holds a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Michigan.

Aili Mari Tripp is the Wangari Maathai Professor of Political Science and Gender and Women’s Studies. Her academic focus is on African politics, women’s movements, and transnational feminism. Professor Tripp joined the faculty at the university in 1992 and was promoted to full professor in 2004. Dr. Tripp holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in Middle Eastern studies from the University of Chicago. She earned a Ph.D. in political science at Northwestern University.
