New Administrative Posts for Six Women in Higher Education

Kallie Bila Michels was promoted to vice president for communications at the University of Michigan. She had been serving as associate vice president for communication since 2008. Michels has been on the staff at the university since 1988.

Michels is a graduate of Central Michigan University, where she majored in journalism. She holds a master’s degree in advertising from Michigan State University.

Katie Rae was named president and CEO of The Engine, a startup accelerator established by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She has been serving as managing director of Project 11 Ventures, a venture fund based in Boston. Rae has also served an entrepreneur-in-residence at Harvard Business School.

Rae is a graduate of Oberlin College in Ohio, where she majored in biology. She holds an MBA from the Yale School of Management.

Gina Sanchez Gibau was appointed associate vice chancellor for faculty diversity and inclusion at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. She has been serving as associate dean for student affairs in the School of Liberal Arts at the university. She has been on the staff at the university since 2000.

Dr. Gibau is a graduate of Rollins College in Florida, where she majored in Latin American and Caribbean affairs. She holds a master’s degree from Latin American studies from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin.

Anne Van Arsdall was named director of summer sessions initiatives at Colorado State University. She was director of undergraduate advising for the department of human development and family studies at the university.

Van Arsdall is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, where she majored in family social science. She holds a master’s degree in college student development and administration from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Jennifer Barut was named chief nursing officer at Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital and Vanderbilt Behavioral Health. She joined the staff at Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital in 2001 as a night-shift nurse. She has served as director of nursing education and professional development for Vanderbilt Behavioral Health.

Barut holds a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Phoenix. She is currently in the Ph.D. program in nursing at Vanderbilt University.

Lori A. Ross was promoted to general counsel and vice president for legal affairs at the University of Cincinnati. She joined the general counsel’s office in 2012 and has been serving as interim deputy general counsel.

Ross is a graduate of Miami University in Oxford University and the University of Cincinnati College of Law.
