Anna Grzymala-Busse, the Michelle and Kevin Douglas Professor of International Studies and a senior fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University in California, has been selected as the winner of the 2017 Laura Shannon Prize in Contemporary European Studies from the Nanovic Institute for European Studies at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.
Professor Grzymala-Busse was honored for her book Nations Under God: How Churches Use Moral Authority to Influence Policy (Princeton University Press, 2015). A. James McAdams, director of the Nanovic Institute, said that Professor Grzymala-Busse’s work “is a remarkable book. It will fundamentally change the way scholars assess the power of churches in European democracies.”
Before joining the faculty at Stanford University in 2016, Dr. Grzymala-Busse was the Ronald and Eileen Weiser Professor of European and Eurasian Studies in the department of political science at the University of Michigan. Earlier she taught at Yale University from 2000 to 2004.
Professor Grzymala-Busse is a graduate of Princeton University, where she majored in public and international affairs. She holds a master’s degree in social and political studies from Cambridge University in England and a Ph.D. in government from Harvard University.
