The New Leader of Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania

The board of governors of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education has named Barbara G. Lyman as interim president of Shippensburg University. One of 14 campus of the state system of higher education, Shippensburg University, located 40 miles southwest of the state capital in Harrisburg, enrolls about 6,000 undergraduates and 1,000 graduate students. Women make up 50 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Dr. Lyman has served as the university’s chief academic officer since 2008. She will serve as interim president while a national search is conducted for a permanent president. The search will begin later this year.

Before joining the staff at Shippensburg University, Dr. Lyman was associate vice president for academic affairs at the University of West Florida in Pensacola. Earlier in her career, Dr. Lyman was associate graduate dean and a department chair at Texas State University-San Marcos.

Dr. Lyman is a graduate of Anna Maria College in Paxton, Massachusetts. She holds a master’s degree in English and American literature from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.
