
Professor Shelton was honored for her book 5-13: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and Survival (Garn Press, 2016). The book relates the story of the 35-year relationship Professor Shelton had with her husband Jack, how the couple waged a six-month battle against Jack’s lung cancer, and how she coped with losing her mate.
Professor Shelton is a graduate of the University at Albany of the State University of New York System. She earned a master’s degree in elementary education and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction, language, literacy, and culture from the University of Florida.
