Two Women Academics Are Leaving Their Posts at Major Universities

STEKETEEGail Steketee, dean of the School of Social Work at Boston University in Massachusetts, has announced that she will step down at the end of the academic year or whenever her replacement is selected. Dr. Steketee has been dean of the School of Social Work since 2008, after serving as interim dean for three years. She is the co-author of Stuff: Compulsive Hoarding and the Meaning of Things (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2010).

Dr. Steketee is the president of Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies. She has been on the faculty at Boston University since 1986. Dr. Steketee is a graduate of Harvard University and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania.

burch-brown2Carol Burch-Brown was named professor of art emerita in the School of Visual Arts at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg. She has been a member of the university’s faculty since 1979. During her time at Virginia Tech, Professor Burch-Brown also served as associate provost and chair of the studio art program.

Professor Burch-Brown is a graduate of Abilene Christian University in Texas. She earned a master of fine arts degree at the University of Chicago.
