The Next Chancellor of the University of Hawai’i West O’ahu in Kapolei

The Hawaii Board of Regents has chosen Maenette K.P. Ah Nee-Benham as the next chancellor of the University of Hawai’i West O’ahu in Kapolei. The campus enrolls about 2,700 students, all undergraduates. Women are 66 percent of the total enrollments. The appointment is effective January 1.
Dr. Nee-Benham has been serving as the dean of the School of Hawaiian Knowledge at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. From 1994 to 2008, she served on the education department faculty at Michigan State University. Dr. Nee-Benham is the editor of the two-volume Indigenous Educational Models for Contemporary Practice: In Our Mother’s Voice (Routledge, 2000 and 2008).
Dr. Nee-Benham is a magna cum laude graduate of San Francisco State University in California, where she majored in theatre arts. She also earned a master’s degree in theatre arts at San Francisco State. Dr. Nee-Benham holds a doctorate in educational administration at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa.
