Alison Collis Greene, an assistant professor of history at Mississippi State University, has been chosen as the winner of the Charles S. Sydnor Award from the Southern Historical Association. The award honors the best book on southern history published during 2015.
Dr. Greene was honored for her book No Depression in Heaven: The Great Depression, the New Deal, and the Transformation of Religion in the Delta (Oxford University Press, 2015). The award committee called the book a “stunning analysis of cultural, political, and religious transformations in the Depression-era South.”
Dr. Greene joined the faculty at Mississippi State University in 2010. She holds a bachelor’s degree in religious studies and anthropology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Ph.D. in history from Yale University.
