Kimberlé Crenshaw to Receive the Gittler Prize From Brandeis University

Kimberle CrenshawKimberlé W. Crenshaw, a professor of law at Columbia University and a professor of law at the University of California, Los Angeles, has been selected as the winner of the 2016-17 Joseph B. and Toby Gittler Prize presented by Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. The Gittler Prize is presented annually to a person whose body of published work reflects scholarly excellence and makes a lasting contribution to racial, ethnic or religious relations.

The Gittler Prize includes a medal and a $25,000 award. Professor Crenshaw will spend three days on the Brandeis campus next October when she will lecture and receive the prize.

Professor Crenshaw is one of the groundbreaking scholars in the field of critical race theory. She is the co-editor of Critical Race Theory: The Key Writings That Formed the Movement (New Press, 1996).

Professor Crenshaw is a graduate of Cornell University and Harvard Law School. She earned a master’s degree in law at the University of Wisconsin.
