Ten Women Academics Named Fellows of the American Chemical Society

The American Chemical Society has announced a new cohort of 57 ACS Fellows. The fellows were recognized at a ceremony at the society’s national meeting and exposition in Philadelphia on August 22. Of this group of 57 new fellows, 10 are women with current academic affiliations in the United States.
The new women fellows are:
Carolyn R. Bertozzi is the Anne T. and Robert M. Bass Professor in the School of Humanities and Sciences and professor of chemistry at Stanford University. She is a graduate of Harvard University and holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.
Mary K. Carroll is a professor of chemistry at Union College in Schenectady, New York. She is a graduate of Union College and earned a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry at Indiana University.
Judith Iriarte-Gross is a professor of chemistry and director of the Women In STEM Center at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Maryland and earned a Ph.D. at the University of South Carolina.
Silvia S. Jurisson is a professor of chemistry and a professor of radiology at the University of Missouri in Columbia. She joined the faculty at the university in 1991. Dr. Jurisson is a graduate of the University of Delaware and earned a Ph.D. at the University of Cincinnati.
Teri W. Odom is the Charles E. and Emma H. Morrison Professor of Chemistry and a professor of material sciences and engineering at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She is a graduate of Stanford University and holds a Ph.D. in chemical physics from Harvard University.
Barbara A. Reisner is a professor of chemistry at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She has served on the faculty since 2006. Dr. Reisner is a graduate of Princeton University and holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.
Susan D. Richardson is the Arthur Sease Williams Professor of Chemistry at the University of South Carolina. She joined the faculty in 2014 after working for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Dr. Richardson is a graduate of Georgia State College and University. She holds a Ph.D. in physical organic chemistry from Emory University.
Joan M. Sabourin is a professor of chemistry at Delta College in University Center, Michigan. She is the former program manager for the Office of Two-Year Colleges at the American Chemical Society.
Melanie S. Sanford is a professor of chemistry at the University of Michigan. She has served on the faculty at the university since 2003. Dr. Sanford is a graduate of Yale University and holds a Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology.
Ellen Yezierski is a professor of chemistry at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Professor Yezierski is a graduate of the University of Arizona. She holds a master’s degree from Northern Arizona University and a Ph.D. from Arizona State University.
