Four Women Appointed to Lead Academic Units at Arizona State University

Arizona State UniversityArizona State University has announced the appointment of four women to lead academic units at the educational institution.

bermanNina Berman was named director of the School of International Letters and Cultures. She was a professor of comparative studies at Ohio State University. Dr. Berman speaks five languages. Professor Berman, who holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, is the author of several books including German Literature on the Middle East: Discourses and Practices, 1000-1989 (University of Michigan Press, 2011).

coxCora Fox, an associate professor of English, was appointed interim director of the Institute for Humanities Research. She is an expert in English Renaissance-era literature. For the past three years, she has been associate director of the institute. Dr. Cox is the author of Ovid and the Politics of Emotion in Elizabethan England (Palgrave Macmillan, 2009). Dr. Fox is a graduate of Grinnell College in Iowa. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

mooreElsie Moore was named director of the School of Social Transformation. She was the faculty director of the African and African American studies program at the university. Her research is focused on child development and psycho-educational assessment. Dr. Moore earned her Ph.D. in social science at the University of Chicago.

nelsonTrisalyn Nelson was named director of the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning. She is the former director of the Spatial Pattern Analysis and Research Laboratory at the University of Victoria in Canada. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Victoria and a Ph.D. in geography from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario.
