Five Women Who Are Stepping Down From Their Posts in Higher Education

Nancy O. Gray, president of Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia, announced that she will step down at the end of the 2016-17 academic year. President Gray became the 11th leader of Hollins University in 2005 after serving as president of Converse College in South Carolina for five years.

President Gray is a graduate of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. She earned a master’s degree in education from North Texas State University in Denton.

Paula Casey has retired from her position as interim vice provost for research and dean of the Graduate School at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She is the former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas and former dean of the Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Casey is a graduate of East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma, and the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville.

Jan Muhlert, director of the Palmer Museum of Art at Pennsylvania State University, announced that she will retire at the end of the calendar year.  She has been director of the museum for 20 years.

Muhlert has nearly 50 years of experience as a museum administration. Before coming to Penn State, she held positions at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, the University of Iowa Museum of Art, and the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth, Texas.

Anne R. Kenney, the Carl A. Kroch University Librarian at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, announced that she will step down on April 1, 2017.  Kenney became the 11th University Librarian in 2008. She joined the staff at the university in 1987.

Kenney is a graduate of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. She holds a master’s degree in history from the University of Missouri at St. Louis, and a master of library and information science degree from the University of Missouri at Columbia.

Marcie Boucouvalas was named professor emerita of human development in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at Virginia Tech. A member of the university community since 1980, Dr. Boucouvalas directed the master’s degree and Ph.D. programs in adult learning and human development. She served as editor of the Journal of Transpersonal Psychology.

Professor Boucouvalas is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Boston. She holds a master’s degree from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and a Ph.D. from Florida State University in Tallahassee.
