Five Women Scholars Honored With Major Awards

CSimpsonCaroline Simpson, a professor of physics at Florida International University in Miami, has been selected to receive the 2016 Ricard H. Emmons Award for excellence in college astronomy teaching from the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. Professor Simpson will be honored at the society’s annual convention in San Francisco this coming October.

Professor Simpson joined the faculty at Florida International in 1995. She is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in astronomy from the University of Florida.

Deborah_EstrinDeborah Estrin, professor of computer science at Cornell Tech and professor of public health at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, has been selected to receive the 2017 Internet Award from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. She is being honored for exceptional contributions to the advancement of internet technology.

Dr. Estrin is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

michelle_personickMichelle Personick, an assistant professor of chemistry at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, received the Victor K. LaMer Award from the American Chemical Society. The award is offered for an outstanding Ph.D. thesis in colloid or surface chemistry.

Dr. Personick is a graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont. She earned a Ph.D. in chemistry at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

Taylor_Doris_200Doris Taylor, director of regenerative medicine at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston and an adjunct professor at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, has been selected to receive the 2016 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. She will be honored at the association’s annual meeting on November 1.

Dr. Taylor is a graduate of the Mississippi University for Women, where she majored in biology. She holds a Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

lamberton-personCait Lamberton, who holds the Ben L. Fryrear Chair of Marketing at the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh, received the Best Paper Award at the 2016 Marketing and Public Policy Conference of the American Marketing Association. Her research was on consumer behavior and responses to Pigovian taxes and was published in the Journal of the Association for Consumer Research.

Dr. Lamberton is a graduate of Wheaton College. She holds an MBA and a Ph.D. in marketing from the University of South Carolina.

Most recently, Dr. Sanders served as vice president of experiential product management and interim vice president of product and technology at Western Governors University.
