Three Women Faculty Members at Davidson College Announce Their Retirements

Davidson CollegeDavidson College, the highly rated liberal arts educational institution in North Carolina, has announced that eight faculty members with a combined 253 years of service to the college, are retiring. Three of the eight faculty members who are retiring are women.

HayPam Hay was an associate professor of biology. She joined the faculty at Davidson College in 1985. Dr. Hay’s research is focused on plant biochemistry. She taught courses on botany, nutrition, and biochemistry. Dr. Hay is a graduate of Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University.

McMillenSally McMillen was serving as the Mary Reynolds Babcock Professor of History at Davidson College. She joined the faculty at the college in 1988. She is the author of several books including Southern Women: Black and White in the Old South (Wiley-Blackwell, 2001). Professor McMillen is a graduate of Wellesley College in Massachusetts. She holds master’s degrees from Pratt Institute and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a Ph.D. in history from Duke University.

Mary VasquezMary S. Vasquez joined the Davidson College faculty in 1995 and was serving as the Joel O. Conarroe Professor of Spanish. Her research interests include the Spanish Civil War period, the literature and film of exile, and the Holocaust seen through a Spanish prism. Professor Vasquez is a graduate of Florida State University. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Washington.

Most recently, Dr. Sanders served as vice president of experiential product management and interim vice president of product and technology at Western Governors University.
