Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.
Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland received a grant from the State of Ohio to fund its Green Dot program that aims to educate students about protecting themselves from sexual assault and to educate bystanders on steps they can take to intervene before a sexual assault may occur.
The University of Massachusetts at Amherst has awarded Michelle Goncalves, founder and the executive director of the university’s Women Into Leadership program, a two-year, $100,000 grant to continue the work of the organization which aims to increase the number of women in public leadership positions. Concalves is a graduate of Providence College in Rhode Island, where she majored in sociology and women’s studies. She earned a master of public policy and administration degree from the University of Massachusetts.
The University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh will share a two-year, $800,000 grant the Department of Defense to create the first 3-D bioprinted breast ductal structure to identify markers for low-risk premalignant disease. The goal is to limit unnecessary breast surgeries for women who will not develop invasive breast cancer.
