In Memoriam: Elizabeth Gierlowski Kordesch, 1956-2016

Elizabeth Gierlowski Kordesch, a professor of geological sciences at Ohio University in Athens, died on May 17 at Ohio Health O’Bleness Hospital in Athens. She was 59 years old.
Professor Gierlowski Kordesch joined the faculty at Ohio University in 1989 and was promoted to full professor in 2010. She was the president of the International Association of Limnogeology. Limnology is the study of lakes.
A native of Chicago, Professor Gierlowski Kordesch earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Chicago. She went on to earn a master’s degree and a Ph.D. at Case Western Reserve University in Phoenix and did postdoctoral research at the Free University in Berlin, Germany.
