Gender Differences in School Safety and Discipline

The National Center for Educational Statistics and the Bureau of Justice Statistics recently released the report, Indicators of School Crime and Safety: 2015. Here is some of the gender-specific data from the report that may be of interest to readers of WIAReport:
- Number of criminal incidents reported to police on college campuses in 2013: 27,600
- Number of the incidents that were forcible sexual assaults: 5,000
- Percentage of all female students ages 12 to 18 who were the victims of a crime at school in 2013: 2.8%
- Percentage of all male students ages 12 to 18 who were the victims of a crime at school in 2013: 3.2%
- Percentage of female high school students who reported that drugs were available at their school in 2009: 19.7%
- Percentage of male high school students who reported that drugs were available at their school in 2009: 24.5%
- Percentage of female students ages 12 to 18 who reported being bullied at school in 2013: 25.2%
- Percentage of male students ages 12 to 18 who reported being bullied at school in 2013: 21.1%
- Percentage of female students ages 12 to 18 who reported being cyber-bullied at school in 2013: 8.6%
- Percentage of male students ages 12 to 18 who reported being cyber-bullied at school in 2013: 5.2%
- Percentage of female high school students who said they had been involved in a physical fight at school in 2013: 5.6%
- Percentage of male high school students who said they had been involved in a physical fight at school in 2013: 10.7%
- Percentage of female high school students who said they had carried a weapon at school in 2013: 3.0%
- Percentage of male high school students who said they had carried a weapon at school in 2013: 7.6%
- Number of female school students expelled from school during the 2011-12 school year: 27,735
- Number of male school students expelled from school during the 2011-12 school year: 83,283
- Number of female school students suspended from school during the 2011-12 school year: 956,795
- Number of male school students suspended from school during the 2011-12 school year: 2,215,608
- Percentage of all female school students who were suspended from school during the 2011-12 school year: 3.97%
- Number of all male school students who were suspended from school during the 2011-12 school year: 8.69%
