Charlotte Baker, an assistant professor of epidemiology and biostatistics in the College of Pharmacy at Florida A&M University, has been selected for the 2016 Distinguished Professor Award from SAS Inc. SAS, which originally stood for statistical analysis systems, was developed at North Carolina State University.
Dr. Baker joined the faculty at Florida A&M University in 2013. She is a graduate of Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. Dr. Baker earned a master of public health degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a doctorate in public health from the University of Kentucky.
Ellen J. Langer, professor of psychology at Harvard University, was selected to receive the Genius Award from the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, New Jersey. Professor Langer was the first woman to be granted tenure in Harvard’s psychology department. She is the author of several books including Counterclockwise: Mindful Health and the Power of Possibility (Ballentine Books, 2009).
Dr. Langer is a graduate of New York University. She holds a Ph.D. in social and clinical psychology from Yale University.
Karen S. Rheuban, professor of pediatrics at the University of Virginia, will have the university’s Center for Telehealth renamed in her honor. Dr. Rheuban is the co-founder of the center which has had 50,000 encounters with patients throughout the world.
Dr. Rheuban is a graduate of the Ohio State University College of Medicine.
Augusta Read Thomas, University Professor of Composition at the University of Chicago, has won the Composer’s Award from the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra. She will be honored later this month in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, when the orchestra performs her work in three concerts.
Professor Thomas studied music at Yale University, Northwestern University, and the Royal Academy of Music in London.
J. Meejin Yoon, professor and chair of the department of architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, received the 2016 Teaching Award of Excellence from the Association for Computer-Aided Design in Architecture.
Professor Yoon is a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and holds a master of architecture degree from Harvard University.
