A Milestone Award for a Syracuse University Physicist

Lisa Manning, an associate professor of physics at Syracuse University in New York, has been selected to received the Young Scientist Prize from the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics. When she receives the award in Lyon, France, this July, she will become the first woman to ever receive the prize. Dr. Manning is being honored for her work on the physics of cancer and congenital disease.

Dr. Manning joined the faculty at Syracuse University in 2011 and was promoted to associate professor in 2015.  She is a 2002 graduate of the University of Virginia, where she double majored in mathematics and physics. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in physics from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Before joining the faculty at Syracuse, Dr. Manning spent three years as a postdoctoral fellow at Princeton University.
