Soha Hassoun, professor and chair of the department of computer science at Tufts University in Massachusetts, has been selected to receive the 2016 Marie R. Pistilli Women in Electronic Design Automation Achievement Award from the Design Automation Conference.
Dr. Hassoun is a graduate of South Dakota State University. She earned a master’s degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in computer science and engineering from the University of Washington.
Karen Hollis, professor of psychology and education at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, was honored for her work in the study of animal cognition at the recent Comparative Cognition Society conference in Florida.
Dr. Hollis is a graduate of Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania. She earned a Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota.
Coco Fusco, who holds the Andrew Banks Family Endowed Chair at the University of Florida, is the winner of the Greenfield Prize in visual art from the Greenfield Foundation of Philadelphia and the Hermitage Artist Retreat. Professor Fusco will use the $30,000 in prize money to help fund a film documentary of Cuban artist Juan Carlos Cremata-Malberti.
Professor Fusco joined the faculty at the University of Florida earlier this year. She is the author of several books including A Field Guide for Female Interrogators (Seven Stories Press, 2008). Professor Fusco is a graduate of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. She holds a master’s degree from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in art and visual culture from Middlesex University in England.
Annette Sobol, the executive for critical infrastructure protection and health security initiatives and an associate professor in the department of medical education at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, received the Henry L. Taylor Founder’s Award from the Aerospace Human Factors Association.
Dr. Sobol is a graduate of Rutgers University and the medical school at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. She also holds a master’s degree in aerospace medicine from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Sobel is flight surgeon was a major general in the Arizona Air National Guard.
Teri Finneman, an assistant professor of journalism and mass communication at South Dakota State University, is one of four finalists for the Frank Luther Mott-Kappa Tau Alpha Journalism and Mass Communication Research Award for the best book on journalism published in the past year. Dr. Finneman is being honored for her book Press Portrayals of Women Politicians, 1870s-2000s: From “Lunatic” Woodhull to “Polarizing” Palin (Lexington Books, 2015).
Dr. Finneman is a graduate of Minnesota State University-Morehead. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
