Valerie Hotchkiss was named University Librarian at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, effective August 1. She is the Andrew S.G. Turyn Endowed Professor and director of the Rare Book and Manuscript Library at the University of Illinois. She is the author or co-author of several books including Clothes Make the Man: Female Cross Dressing in Medieval Europe (Routledge, 1996).
Dr. Hotchkiss holds a bachelor’s degree in classics, a master of library and information sciences degree, and a Ph.D. in medieval studies, all from Yale University.
Anne Jarvis was appointed University Librarian at Princeton University in New Jersey, effective October 1. She will direct the university’s Harvey S. Firestone Library and nine other libraries on campus with more than 8 million printed volumes. Since 2009, she has been University Librarian at the University of Cambridge in England.
Jarvis is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin. She holds a master’s degree in communication and cultural studies from Dublin City University and a master’s degree from the University of Cambridge. She also earned a diploma in library and information studies from University College Dublin.
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is a national program run by the University of California for the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science. Dr. Yelick, a computer scientist and longtime UC Berkeley faculty member, will become the laboratory's next director on July 1.
Renée Wachter, chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Superior, has been selected to serve as interim president of the Universities of Wisconsin. Maria Cuzzo, provost of UW-Superior, will serve as the university's interim chancellor while Dr. Wachter assumes her new responsibilities.
